Glossary

Overview

A glossary of the terms used throughout the RIWA software documentation.

Definitions (A-Z)

A

  • Acceptable : A part rating that indicates the weld has met the acceptable parameters but not the Nominal parameters.
  • AI Types : The AI used to monitor and rate welds.
  • A-Scan: The waveform for the individual elements in the transducer. M-Scans are made up of many A-Scans.
  • Authenticator App : A mobile security tool used to generated time-based, one-time passwords to ensure a second layer of account security (2FA).

B

  • Browser : A section of the RIWA Hub that allows the user to view both part data and weld data.

C

  • Configurator : A section of the RIWA Hub that allows the user to modify TF Bridge, RIWA Cluster, Manufacturing Equipment, and Products configurations.

H

  • Hall Effect : The Current ON (CON) and Current OFF (OFF) cycles of a given weld sent by the Hall Effect Sensor.
  • Hall Effect Sensor : A physical unit that sends electromagnetic pulses.

M

  • M-Scan : A grouping of related A-Scans put together to get an entire welding image.
  • Manufacturing Equipment : A hierarchical structure used to explain a factories physical layout.
    • Line : A grouping of Cells inside of the factory.
    • Cell : A grouping of Guns inside the factory.
    • Gun : The physical welding gun used inside the factory.

N

  • Nominal : A part rating that indicates the weld has met the ideal parameters.

P

  • Part Group : A grouping of related parts.
  • Part Instances : A specific part that has been tracked and measured.
  • Part Types : The configuration of a part.
  • Penetration : the maximum achieved depth into the respective sheet.
  • PLC : Programmable Logic Controller.
  • PLC Layout : How the RIWA Cluster interprets communication from the PLC.
  • Products : A container of all the configured Part Groups.

R

  • RIWA : Real-Time Integrated Weld Analyzer.
  • RIWA Cluster : A group of Weld Analyzers which offers an application to monitor and overview its associated analyzers.
  • RIWA Hub : The front-end application that displays the data given from the RIWA Cluster.

T

  • TF Bridge : A server that determines which AI annotates a weld.
  • Terminal : An application used to interact directly with the computer.
  • Time Above Threshold : This represents the total elapsed time during which the liquid nugget exceeded the specified penetration threshold. The duration is measured from the start of the first welding impulse to the end of the last welding impulse. Note that the liquid nugget penetration depth may fall below this threshold then exceed it later (in-between impulses for example). The elapsed time measurement excludes periods when the liquid nugget falls below the threshold and includes only the periods when it exceeds the threshold. Meaning that we measure the total time the nugget exceeded the penetration even when the liquid nugget does not continuously exceed the threshold.

U

  • Unacceptable : A rating that indicates the part or weld has not met the acceptable parameters.

W

  • Weld Analyzer : A physical unit responsible for processing weld data provided from its Gun.
  • Weld Instances : A weld that has been tracked and measured.
  • Weld Mapping : An image that depicts the placement of each weld on a given part, where each corresponding weld is coloured to indicated their rating.
  • Weld Type : The configuration of a weld.
