TDS RSWA Connection Issues

· 2 min read

Connecting an RSWA to a TDS server instance should be an easy task. However, sometimes with different network infrastructures and enterprise directives, the communication between TDS and RSWA might be disrupted for a variety of reasons.

Follow the steps below to help diagnose this issue.

1. Check Network Connection

First, check whether TDS and the RSWA are both connected to the network and are both operating on the same network. If the TDS server is located on an office network while all RSWA devices are connected to the plant Wi-Fi, it's up to the IT department to configure a connection channel through which TDS and RSWA may communicate.

2. Check TDS Configuration

If the TDS server and the RSWA units are on the same network, check your TDS configuration in the file tds-server.json, which should be located in the folder C:\ProgramData\tessonics\tds2. Ensure the url field is set to the hostname/IP address of the PC running TDS. Otherwise, other devices will not be able to connect to the network.

You can also consult this section of our documentation to learn how to configure the server.

note

Under default installations of TDS, it will set the url field to either 127.0.0.1 or localhost, which simply point to the current PC. That means the server cannot reach other computers, as those devices will simply check for TDS on themselves rather than on the TDS PC.

3. Check Firewall Rules

If they are both on the same network, ensure you have the proper firewall rules configured. You can consult this section of our documentation to learn how to create the proper firewall rules.

If these firewall rules are set and the connection still cannot be established, have the IT department check for other possibly conflicting firewall rules.

With these steps most connection issues can usually be resolved. If you need further assistance, contact Tessonics Customer Support.
